Rick Young, Store Manager
Rick Young an Iowa native, got his riding start in Virginia Beach after graduating from Truman State University in Missouri. He started working in the bike industry at HDK Cycles in 1999. As a road and mountain bike racer, Rick knows all about high performance bikes and gear. He's also very experienced with with fitting, and graduated from Michael Sylvester's Triathlon Fitting Clinc. So if you're looking to tweak your fit, or want to be fit right on your new bike, come see Rick!
Tim Flotkoetter, Service Manager
Tim, a transplant from Chicago, began his steadily quickening spiral into the world of bicycles in and around 1997 when he fell in love with BMX. After riding professionally over the course of a few years his horizons opened to all two-wheeled disciplines and their mechanical intricacies. With 5+ years of professional shop experience, a Park Tool Certified Instructor, and recently Certified Race Mechanic through the 2013 USA Cycling Bill Woodul Race Mechanics Clinic in Colorado Springs, CO. He’d be happy to help you with all of your bicycle service needs and desires.
Robert Menter, Sales
Passionate about cycling , Robert began his association with BikeBeat as a customer, joining the staff in April of 2013. As a sales associate, he shares his love of the sport with customers. “I love hearing from customers about their cycling experiences,” he says. “It’s very rewarding when you can see the fire in their eyes as they share.” Robert enjoys helping customers with their cycling needs, be it a new bike, safety and riding accessories, or riding apparel. He’ll be glad to find the right product for you.
Robert rode single track technical trail until the need for a gentler ride led him to road cycling. Now, he rides about a hundred and fifty miles a week. Since starting at BikeBeat, Robert has expended his knowledge of bicycle maintenance and care, and completed a shop-run maintenance course, He’s committed to expanding his knowledge of bike care. He instructs the “Get To Know Your Bike Night” sessions, which he says are an excellent introduction for those new to cycling.
Saturdays 7:15 AM* Join us for a 47 mile A+ pace ride. This ride is a very fast and challenging training ride best suited for very strong riders. Ride cancels in the event of rain, and may cancel on race weekends. Group meets at 7:00 AM and rolls out at 7:15. *Call the shop Friday to confirm the ride is on.
BikeBeat Hilltop holds Get To Know Your Bike Nights twice a month March thru September, and once a month October thru February. Classes are at 7pm. Call ahead to be sure we have space, as we're limited to about 10 students. Children 8 and up are welcome when accompanied by a parent.
Park Tool School is a comprehensive course in bicycle repair and maintenance, complete with a Park Tool School Student Manual and Park Certificate of completion. Meeting for two hours once a week in the evening for four consecutive weeks, this in depth course will enable you to overhaul and maintain your own bike. Call Tim Flotkoetter if you have questions. Tuition is $120.00.
